From assessment to final session, you can expect that your student's needs will be the focus of our efforts.

How does my child become a new student?

Contact us at educationaltherapylc@gmail.com or call 703-651-6835 to get started! One of our therapists will reach out by email or phone to schedule an assessment, and to determine the best program to fit your child's needs.

How is Educational Therapy different from tutoring?

While tutoring focuses on academic content, educational therapy seeks to strengthen cognition.  Strengthening deficits makes learning academic content easier and more efficient.

Would my child benefit from Educational Therapy?

Our students are all unique!  Some of the needs of our students include:

  • Difficulty meeting deadlines and planning
  • Letter reversals
  • Reading difficulties
  • Difficulty following directions
  • Difficulty understanding written or oral directions
  • Poor motivation
  • Attentional and focus challenges
  • Lack of confidence
  • Difficulty writing (penmanship and/or composition)
  • Organization
  • Specific subject difficulty without explanation

Which therapy would best address my student’s needs?

After testing, an individualized plan is recommended for each student that addresses his/her specific needs.

How long does this intervention take?

Correcting the process of learning is not a quick fix. Different interventions take different amounts of time.  Some programs are completed in 60 hours while others take several years. Consistency is key for any intervention to be successful.

Is help available via Skype?

We can offer therapy through Skype to students worldwide.

Will there be homework / work outside the sessions?

Because each student is different and each need is different, each plan is different. Homework is sometimes assigned but never frivolously; there is always a reason behind the assigned work and should be taken seriously by the student. Parental support is necessary, but our aim is to nurture student responsibility, initiative, and independence in homework.

Can this work be incorporated into a homeschool curriculum?

Certainly! The best success is achieved when there is strong cooperation and mutual support between the homeschooling parent, the educational therapist, and the engaged learner.

Do you work with my student’s teachers?

We are willing to be as involved at school as the parent would like us to be. We understand that we are part of a team whose goal is your child’s success and will make every effort to cooperate with teachers as well as provide an important and unique program that will greatly enhance the school experience.

Can you make guarantees?

We can guarantee that to the best of our ability and training we will provide an individualized program that meets the specific needs of your child, and deliver targeted deliberate sessions using a wide variety of tools and techniques available to us. Because this is a cooperative effort, we cannot guarantee outcomes. Success looks different for each student. For some students, we see improved confidence or a positive change in attitude. Others demonstrate academic improvement. There is hope. Read some of our success stories.
